Kelly J. Capps has dedicated her career to the practice of family law. She strongly believes that divorce is a very personal matter and recognizes the difficulty that clients face as they make long-lasting financial decisions often in the midst of personal turmoil. She believes that having a knowledgeable attorney is important; but that having a strong litigator who knows the law, and understands finances and family dynamics can be the difference between just surviving a divorce and starting a new and better chapter of one’s life.

Graduated cum laude from American University’s Washington College of Law in Washington, D.C., in 1993, Kelly is a Texan through and through. She grew up in Houston and obtained an undergraduate degree in business administration from the University of Texas at Austin in 1986.

She began practicing family law in Virginia in 1993 and in Washington D.C. in 1996. She joined the firm of Ravdin & Wofford, P.C. in 1996 as an associate attorney and in only two short years she “made partner” and became a shareholder in 1998. As a family law litigator in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, she developed an expertise in multi-jurisdictional cases and in the division of complex retirement benefits. Her clients included employees of the United Nations, the World Bank, the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Armed Forces, and numerous federal agencies. Kelly and her husband Jerry, also a Texas native, brought their young family home to the Lone Star State in 2002. As an associate with Ausley, Algert, Robertson & Flores, L.L.P. she quickly gained a foothold in Austin’s competitive legal market and developed a reputation as a strong and accomplishedTexas litigator. As a complement to her strong litigation background, she is also an experienced practitioner of Collaborative Law and a founding member of the Collaborative Law Institute of Texas.

Kelly founded the Capps Law Firm, PLLC in 2005 and became board certified in family law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization* in 2008. Capps Law Firm provides top-notch personal service in matters ranging from basic drafting to the most complex family law property litigation and highly contested custody disputes.

Kelly J. Capps is licensed to practice law in Texas, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. Kelly is a member of the Family Law Section of the Texas State Bar, the Austin Bar Association, the Williamson County Bar Association, the Texas Academy of Family Law Specialists, the Texas Family Law Foundation, the Collaborative Law Group of Austin, Austin Collaborative Family Lawyers, and the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals.
